The Clap Out

For some strange reason I don't remember the clap out in Grade 6 at all, but I do remember the one I had in Grade 3. Maybe because in Grade 3 I was excited that the school year was ending and that I was going on to the Gifted Program, while in Grade 6 I was new to the school and was a confused child.

Well anyways, I have a vague memory of what the two past clap outs were like in JGA. In Grade 6, since I didn't know anyone in Grade 8 at the time, I didn't find much of a purpose to what I was doing so I clapped at when everyone else clapped.

In Grade 7 on the other hand, I was in a split class with Grade 8's, so I got to know a few Grade 8's very well, also I was in a few extra-curricular activities that bonded me with other Grade 8's. At the clap out I remember saying bye to some of my favorite Grade 8's in my class like Joel, Severin, and Gavrilo. I wasn't sad or anything because I knew I would see them again when I went to Martingrove.

This year, in June I don't expect anything different than the past 2 years. I think I'll feel happy that I'm heading to high school, but I think others will be disappointed because they won't see their friends again. Well life is all about growing up and experiencing new things, and I think moving on to high school is just another issue you have to live through and deal with by yourself. I also don't think there will be any Grade 6 or 7's that will miss me. Sure some of them are good friends but I think they can handle another year before seeing me again.
I guess the clap out is just a reminder of what you have accomplished in grade school, and it's an accomplishment we all should be happy about.
